Job Title: Senior Metabolomics Assay Specialist
Location: United Arab Emirates (Remote)
Employment Type: Full-Time
Work Arrangement: 100% Remote — Work From Home
Level: Senior
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Metabolomics Assay Specialist to provide scientific and technical expertise in the development, optimization, validation, and application of metabolomics assays. The successful candidate will support the analysis of small-molecule metabolites in biological and other research samples, evaluate analytical performance, interpret complex metabolomics datasets, and contribute to research and development programs across pharmaceutical, biotechnology, clinical research, and life sciences environments.
This fully remote role requires strong knowledge of analytical chemistry, mass spectrometry, chromatography, metabolite profiling, assay validation, and quantitative data analysis. The specialist will collaborate with laboratory scientists, bioinformaticians, researchers, quality teams, and external analytical service providers to ensure reliable, reproducible, and scientifically meaningful results.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the technical development and optimization of targeted and untargeted metabolomics assay strategies.
Design and review analytical approaches for detecting, identifying, and quantifying metabolites in biological samples.
Provide technical guidance on liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS), gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC-MS), and other relevant analytical platforms.
Review sample preparation methodologies, including extraction, protein precipitation, derivatization, and metabolite enrichment procedures.
Assess assay suitability for different sample matrices, including plasma, serum, urine, tissue, cell culture, and other research specimens.
Evaluate analytical performance characteristics, including sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, precision, linearity, recovery, and reproducibility.
Review calibration curves, internal standard performance, quality control samples, and analytical acceptance criteria.
Support the selection and evaluation of stable isotope-labelled internal standards and reference materials.
Assess metabolite identification strategies using retention times, mass-to-charge ratios, fragmentation patterns, and spectral libraries.
Review chromatographic separation, peak integration, signal quality, and instrument performance data.
Evaluate matrix effects, ion suppression, carryover, analytical drift, and other factors affecting assay reliability.
Review method qualification, validation, verification, and transfer documentation.
Analyze and interpret metabolomics datasets to identify metabolic patterns, biomarkers, and relevant biochemical pathways.
Coordinate with bioinformatics teams to support data normalization, statistical analysis, multivariate analysis, and pathway interpretation.
Investigate unexpected analytical results, batch effects, assay variability, and deviations from established quality criteria.
Support root-cause analysis and recommend corrective and preventive actions for analytical performance issues.
Review laboratory protocols, analytical reports, technical summaries, and study documentation for scientific accuracy.
Coordinate remotely with contract research organizations, analytical laboratories, academic partners, and internal research teams.
Support the preparation of scientific reports, research publications, technical presentations, and regulatory-supporting documentation where applicable.
Monitor developments in metabolomics technologies, analytical instrumentation, reference databases, and industry standards.
Identify opportunities to improve assay sensitivity, throughput, reproducibility, data quality, and analytical workflows.
Maintain accurate records of assay specifications, method changes, validation evidence, and technical decisions.
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related scientific discipline.
Master's degree or PhD in Metabolomics, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a relevant field is highly desirable.
Significant professional experience in metabolomics, analytical assay development, mass spectrometry, or bioanalytical research.
Strong understanding of metabolomics principles, including targeted and untargeted metabolite profiling.
Advanced knowledge of LC-MS/MS, GC-MS, and relevant chromatographic and mass spectrometric techniques.
Experience developing, optimizing, and evaluating analytical methods for small-molecule metabolites.
Knowledge of biological sample preparation, metabolite extraction, sample stability, and matrix-specific analytical challenges.
Experience reviewing assay validation parameters, including precision, accuracy, linearity, selectivity, sensitivity, and recovery.
Understanding of internal standards, calibration models, quality controls, and quantitative analytical workflows.
Familiarity with metabolite identification, spectral interpretation, retention-time matching, and reference databases.
Experience assessing matrix effects, ion suppression, carryover, analytical drift, and batch variability.
Knowledge of metabolomics data processing, normalization, statistical analysis, and quality assessment.
Familiarity with bioinformatics tools, pathway analysis platforms, and metabolomics databases.
Experience with analytical software and data processing platforms used for chromatography and mass spectrometry.
Understanding of relevant laboratory quality principles, including method validation, data integrity, and reproducibility.
Experience reviewing scientific protocols, technical reports, analytical datasets, and research documentation.
Strong analytical reasoning, scientific writing, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent attention to detail and ability to interpret complex experimental and analytical data.
Ability to coordinate multidisciplinary research activities and provide technical guidance in a remote environment.
Relevant professional certifications, specialized training, or research publications in metabolomics and mass spectrometry are advantageous.
