Consultant Visceral Surgeon

The Consultant Visceral Surgeon is responsible for providing specialized surgical care for patients with diseases and disorders of the abdominal organs, including the gastrointestinal tract, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, spleen and other intra-abdominal organs. The role involves diagnosing, managing and performing complex elective and emergency surgical procedures, ensuring high standards of patient safety, clinical excellence and evidence-based medical practice in accordance with Dubai Health Authority (DHA) regulations. Key Responsibilities Diagnose and manage patients with complex diseases and conditions affecting abdominal and gastrointestinal organs. Perform advanced visceral and abdominal surgical procedures, including elective and emergency surgeries. Manage surgical conditions involving the stomach, intestines, colon, rectum, liver, pancreas, gallbladder and spleen. Perform laparoscopic and minimally invasive surgical procedures where clinically indicated. Evaluate patients through clinical examinations, diagnostic imaging, laboratory investigations and endoscopic assessments. Develop individualized treatment plans based on patients' clinical conditions and surgical requirements. Manage acute abdominal emergencies, including intestinal obstruction, perforation, appendicitis, peritonitis and abdominal trauma. Provide preoperative assessment, surgical planning and postoperative management. Monitor patients for postoperative complications and ensure appropriate follow-up care. Collaborate with gastroenterologists, oncologists, radiologists, anaesthesiologists and other healthcare professionals. Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings for the management of complex surgical and oncological cases. Maintain accurate and comprehensive patient medical records and surgical documentation. Ensure compliance with infection control protocols, patient safety standards and hospital policies. Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives and continuing medical education. Supervise and provide clinical guidance to junior doctors and surgical team members. Qualifications and Experience Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) from a recognized medical institution. Recognized postgraduate specialization in General Surgery, Visceral Surgery or an equivalent surgical specialty. Valid Consultant-level professional qualification recognized by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA). Extensive clinical experience in general and visceral surgery. Demonstrated experience in performing complex abdominal and gastrointestinal surgical procedures. Experience in laparoscopic and minimally invasive surgery is preferred. Previous experience in a reputed hospital or tertiary care centre is desirable. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification, as applicable.
