AV Design Engineer

Job Overview GIMPEX Technologies is seeking a technically skilled AV Design Engineer to join our engineering team, specializing in the design and engineering of professional audio-visual systems for theaters, auditoriums, conference rooms, private cinemas, and high-end commercial and residential projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing complete AV system designs, selecting appropriate equipment, preparing technical documentation, and coordinating with architects, consultants, suppliers, and project execution teams. This is primarily a design and engineering role, rather than an installation or programming position. Key Responsibilities 1. AV System Design & Engineering * Design complete professional audio, video, and control systems for different project applications. * Develop loudspeaker layouts, coverage strategies, amplifier configurations, DSP architectures, and microphone systems. * Design projection systems, LED display systems, video distribution, switching, and signal routing. * Design video conferencing and collaboration solutions for meeting and conference spaces. * Perform technical calculations, including sound pressure levels, amplifier power requirements, projection throw distances, screen dimensions, and equipment capacities. * Develop AV system architectures considering performance, scalability, reliability, and integration. 2. Technical Drawings & Documentation * Prepare AV schematic diagrams, system block diagrams, and signal-flow drawings. * Produce equipment layouts, rack elevations, speaker placement drawings, and cable schedules. * Prepare AV shop drawings and coordinate with architectural, electrical, mechanical, and interior design drawings. * Develop detailed Bills of Quantities (BOQs), equipment schedules, and technical specifications. * Prepare design submissions and technical documentation for consultant and client approvals. 3. Equipment Selection & System Optimization * Evaluate and specify professional AV equipment based on project requirements. * Select suitable loudspeakers, amplifiers, processors, microphones, projectors, displays, video matrices, and control equipment. * Review manufacturer specifications and ensure technical compatibility between components. * Optimize designs for system performance, project budgets, and maintainability. * Coordinate with international manufacturers and technical support teams. 4. Design Coordination & Technical Support * Coordinate with architectural, acoustic, MEP, and project management teams. * Review tender documents, consultant specifications, and project requirements. * Support the commercial team with technical proposals, equipment selection, and design-based cost estimation. * Review site conditions to verify design feasibility. * Provide technical clarification to installation and commissioning teams. * Review technical submittals and respond to consultant comments. Qualifications & Experience * Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Electronics, Telecommunications, Acoustical Engineering, or a related discipline. * 3–7 years of relevant experience in professional AV system design. * Proven experience designing AV systems for theaters, auditoriums, conference rooms, or similar environments. * Strong understanding of professional audio, video, signal processing, and AV networking. * Proficiency in AutoCAD and AV system schematic documentation. * Familiarity with professional AV design and simulation software. * Strong knowledge of professional AV equipment manufacturers and system integration practices. * Ability to independently develop technical designs from initial requirements to construction documentation. * Excellent English communication and technical documentation skills. Preferred Technical Knowledge * Audio: Q-SYS, Biamp, Shure, Sennheiser, QSC, JBL Professional, d&b audio Technik, L-Acoustics, or equivalent systems. * Video: Barco, Christie, Panasonic, Epson, professional LED systems, video switching and distribution. * Control & Integration: Crestron, Extron, Q-SYS, Control4, or equivalent. * AV Networking: Dante, AES67, AV-over-IP, multicast networking, and basic network configuration. * Design Tools: AutoCAD, EASE, EASE Focus, manufacturer prediction tools, and AV schematic software. * Industry Standards: Familiarity with AVIXA standards, relevant audiovisual performance guidelines, and applicable cinema/audio standards. Preferred Certifications * AVIXA Certified Technology Specialist (CTS). * AVIXA CTS-D (Certified Technology Specialist – Design). * Relevant manufacturer training or certifications in professional AV design. Expected Deliverables * Complete AV system design packages. * AV equipment selection and BOQs. * System schematics and signal-flow diagrams. * Loudspeaker layouts and coverage calculations. * Projection and display system calculations. * Rack elevations and cable schedules. * Coordinated AV shop drawings. * Technical specifications and design submissions.
