This role combines revenue accounting and internal audit across our UK hotels. You will own the accuracy of hotel revenue from the PMS through to card and bank receipts and the ledger, and test the controls that protect our revenue and costs. It suits a hands-on accountant who likes digging into data and seeing issues through to the fix.
Key responsibilities
Revenue accounting
Review daily PMS revenue for rooms, F&B and other income, and resolve discrepancies
Check room rates against rate codes, and review complimentary rooms, discounts, voids and allowances
Reconcile card and bank receipts to daily takings
Reconcile OTA revenue, virtual card (VCC) payments and commissions, and chase missing amounts
Manage the guest and city ledger: deposits, ageing, credit balances and write-offs
Post revenue journals and accruals in NetSuite and reconcile PMS revenue to the ledger
Deliver revenue figures and KPIs (ADR, RevPAR, occupancy) for the management accounts by the 10th of each month
Internal audit
Carry out internal audits at hotel level, following the audit plan
Test purchases from PO to goods receipt to invoice to payment, and flag unapproved or unreceipted orders
Review supplier invoices (housekeeping, cleaning, F&B, maintenance) against contract rates and actual activity
Check payroll and timesheets against rotas, contractor rates and the P&L
Reconcile asset and stock records to the asset register
Write clear findings with financial impact and agreed actions, and track them to closure with hotel General Managers
Support external audit and VAT return requests
Skills and experience
Essential
2 to 5 years in hotel revenue accounting, income audit, internal audit or external audit
Degree in accounting or finance; part or fully qualified (ACCA, ACA or CIMA)
Hands-on experience with a hotel PMS (e.g. Opera) and reconciling it to the ledger
Strong understanding of OTA, VCC and city ledger processes
Experience with an ERP system; NetSuite preferred
Advanced Excel: lookups, pivot tables and large reconciliations
Clear, concise written English for findings and reports
Desirable
UK hotel experience and knowledge of UK VAT on accommodation and F&B
Exposure to procurement or AP systems
Multi-property or group reporting experience
What we're looking for
We work at pace and expect high energy and full accountability. You will thrive here if you:
Treat every unreconciled amount and every finding as yours to resolve
Are sceptical and evidence-led, and test the data rather than accepting explanations
Hit the monthly reporting deadline without fail
Can challenge hotel teams and suppliers with confidence and tact
Want to learn quickly and grow into a senior audit or finance role
