We're looking for sharp, detail-oriented students to join our Cost Accounting Internship and gain hands-on experience in the cost analysis work that drives real business decisions.
About the Internship
As a Cost Accounting Intern, you'll do realistic cost accounting work inspired by real manufacturing and service businesses: calculating mock product costs, building mock budgets and variances, allocating mock overhead, and preparing mock cost reports that managers actually use.
You'll learn how cost accountants track where every dollar goes, why some products are more profitable than others, and how accurate cost data guides pricing, outsourcing, and production decisions.
Responsibilities
* Calculate mock product costs using job-order and process-costing methods.
* Classify mock costs as direct, indirect, fixed, or variable.
* Build mock cost-of-goods-sold schedules from raw data.
* Allocate mock manufacturing overhead using activity-based drivers.
* Prepare mock monthly budget-vs-actual variance reports.
* Analyze mock material, labor, and overhead variances.
* Reconcile mock inventory balances across raw materials, WIP, and finished goods.
* Run mock break-even and contribution-margin analyses.
* Build mock standard-cost cards for products and services.
* Evaluate mock make-vs-buy decisions with differential cost analysis.
* Prepare mock pricing models with target-costing logic.
* Track mock scrap, spoilage, and rework costs and their causes.
* Build mock departmental expense budgets and monitor spending.
* Analyze mock capacity utilization and idle-capacity costs.
* Prepare mock KPI dashboards (cost per unit, cost per labor hour, overhead rates).
* Document mock cost assumptions and calculation methodologies.
* Review mock purchase and production records for cost-optimization opportunities.
* Build mock what-if scenarios for price, volume, and cost changes.
* Use AI tools to detect mock cost trends and anomalies in large datasets.
* Prepare mock cost-summary decks for management review.
* Present mock cost findings with clear, data-backed recommendations.
Requirements
* Current student or recent graduate in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field.
* Strong interest in cost analysis, budgeting, and financial operations.
* Meticulous attention to detail and comfort with large, messy datasets.
* Strong spreadsheet skills (Excel or Google Sheets); pivot tables and lookups a must.
* Logical thinker with a numbers-first mindset.
* Good written and verbal communication skills.
* Ability to follow structured procedures and meet reporting deadlines.
* Interest in how businesses measure and control costs.
* Familiarity with basic accounting concepts (debits, credits, ledgers) is a plus but not required.
* Familiarity with AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or similar platforms is a plus.
* Previous professional accounting or finance experience is not required.
What You'll Gain
* Hands-on experience building product cost models end to end.
* Practical experience with budgets, variances, and cost allocations.
* Understanding of how cost data drives pricing and production decisions.
* Understanding of inventory accounting and overhead methods.
* Experience building cost dashboards and management reports.
* Practical exposure to make-vs-buy and break-even analysis.
* Experience using AI and modern accounting tools.
* Portfolio-ready cost models and variance reports.
* Personalized AI feedback on your work.
* Professional certificate upon successful completion.
* Mentorship and weekly learning sessions.
* Opportunity to strengthen your portfolio, resume, and interview readiness.
