Lead Oil Products Trader – African Markets
Location: Dubai, UAE
Sector: Physical Energy & Commodity Trading (Refined Oil Products)
Languages: Fluent English & French (Bilingual strongly preferred)
We have been exclusively mandated by an integrated, institutionally backed energy trading and natural resources platform headquartered in Dubai. Founded by former oil-major trading executives and supported by premier pan-African financial institutions, the company is built around a strategic mandate: unlocking regional supply chains, supporting downstream security of supply, and capturing high-value physical flows across the African continent.
This mandate is suited for an entrepreneurial, senior Lead Oil Products Trader seeking clear transactional autonomy, institutional balance-sheet support, and direct P&L ownership over physical flows into both Anglophone and Francophone Africa.
Core Responsibilities
Physical Trading & Book Ownership: Originate, structure, and execute physical cargo deliveries of refined oil products (gasoil, gasoline, jet fuel, fuel oil) across targeted African importing corridors.
Commercial Origination & Tender Management: Lead competitive bidding for regional term import tenders, spot supply contracts, and government/NOC procurement mechanisms across West, Central, and East Africa.
Off-Take & Structured Supply: Develop bilateral supply agreements with regional distributors, state entities, independent marketers, and local refiners, integrating trade finance instruments (LCs, structured prepayments).
Hedging & Derivative Risk Management: Manage flat price, basis, time-spread, and FX risks using ICE/NYMEX paper markets and derivative swaps to protect desk margins.
End-to-End Supply Chain Optimization: Collaborate closely with internal operations, chartering, and trade finance teams to oversee vessel chartering, ship-to-ship (STS) transfers, terminal discharge, blending, and inland distribution logistics.
Market Expansion: Identify new regional arbitrage windows, import parity dislocations, and intra-African distribution routes to steadily grow physical book volume and market share.
Candidate Profile & Mandate Criteria
5–10 years of physical oil products trading experience (distillates and/or light ends), ideally gained within an established mid-sized trading house or an agile physical merchant platform.
Verifiable track record of standalone P&L delivery, demonstrating disciplined execution, operational problem-solving, and sound risk management.
Deep pan-African market footprint: Extensive on-the-ground commercial exposure, regular market presence, and deep familiarity with local import dynamics, discharge operations, and regulatory environments.
Established commercial network: Direct, demonstrable relationships with state-owned entities/NOCs, private distributors, local refiners, and downstream off-takers across Anglophone and Francophone Africa.
Bilingual capability (English & French): Essential for commercial origination, tender submissions, and high-level negotiations across West, Central, and East Africa.
Track Record & Rigor: Strong academic background from reputable institutions, combined with demonstrable career stability and progressive growth.
Commercial Mindset: High autonomy, transactional resilience, and the instinct to capitalize on regional arbitrage and structured supply opportunities.
What This Seat Delivers

Strategic Dubai Hub: Anchor your trading desk in Dubai, the primary global crossroads connecting international refining centers and financial liquidity to African demand.
Direct Value Alignment: Competitive compensation architecture featuring a clear, performance-driven upside directly indexed to desk profitability.
