About The Role: We are seeking a Staff Scientist to join OIKOS Genomics and manage the daily operations of the animal cell culture laboratory and biobank, supporting the long-term genetic conservation of threatened species. Based in Abu Dhabi and Sweihan, the role combines routine biobanking services with the development of cell culture and cryopreservation methods for non-model species. The scientist will also support ongoing induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) and primordial germ cell (PGC) projects. The position will work under the supervision of the Head of Genomics and the Head of Research, in close collaboration with students, project scientists and external research partners. Key Responsibilities: Coordinate daily laboratory activities, including equipment maintenance, consumables, quality control and biosafety practices. Receive, register and process biological samples, ensuring accurate identification and traceability. Isolate, culture and expand primary animal cells and prepare samples for cryopreservation. Maintain biobank inventories and databases, ensuring accurate storage records and sample tracking. Maintain, expand and assess the quality of iPSC and PGC lines used in research projects. Develop and optimise cell culture and cryopreservation methods to extend biobanking capacity to additional species. Prepare and update standard operating procedures to ensure consistent and reproducible laboratory practices. Train and supervise students, interns and temporary laboratory staff. Collaborate with internal teams and external partners on method development and research activities. Contribute to data analysis, technical reports, and scientific publications. Requirements: PhD in Cell Biology, Reproductive Biotechnology, Animal Science or a related field, or a Master’s degree with substantial relevant laboratory experience. Solid hands-on experience in animal cell culture and cryopreservation. Experience in laboratory operations, quality control, and accurate record-keeping. Ability to maintain sample traceability, laboratory records, and biobank inventories. Experience preparing and following laboratory protocols and standard operating procedures. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word, for data management and reporting. Fluent written and spoken English. Preferred qualifications: Experience generating, characterising, or maintaining iPSC lines. Experience working with primordial germ cells (PGCs). Experience with avian species or other non-model organisms. Familiarity with biobank management software and international biobanking standards. Experience in molecular biology techniques, including PCR, qPCR, and transfection. Knowledge of additional languages would be an advantage. Show more Show less
