Red Hat OpenShift Engineer

Manage and support the customer's Red Hat OpenShift infrastructure to keep container platforms secure, available, and recoverable. Administer clusters hosted on VMware vSphere / VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) and Nutanix AHV across disconnected and internet connected environments. Support application teams with deployments and execute platform recovery procedures during disaster recovery drills. Key Responsibilities Ensure follow the customer’s policy and procedures, tracking incidents as per SLA, track and close vulnerability, audit finding, and security patches Install, configure, operate and maintain OpenShift clusters. Manage node lifecycle, Operators, upgrades, and patching through approved change processes. Administer Red Hat OpenShift Data Foundation (ODF), including storage health, capacity, storage classes, persistent volumes, and incident resolution. Administer Red Hat Advanced Cluster Management (ACM) for cluster lifecycle, health monitoring, and approved governance policies. Administer Red Hat Advanced Cluster Security (ACS). Maintain security controls and coordinate vulnerability remediation with Information Security and application teams. Administer Red Hat Quay, including registry availability, access controls, image retention, and image mirroring for disconnected environments. Monitor availability, performance, and capacity. Resolve incidents, document root causes, and implement corrective actions within agreed service targets. Manage identity integration, role-based access, certificates, and network policies in accordance with the customer's security standards and segregation of duties. Coordinate compute, storage, networking, and virtualization dependencies with relevant teams, including DNS, load balancing, ingress, and storage connectivity. Support application onboarding, deployment, and scaling. Investigate platform causes of workload failures with application and DevOps teams. Maintain and verify platform backups and restoration procedures. Coordinate persistent volume and application data protection with backup and application teams. Use shell scripts to automate routine operations. Maintain platform configurations, operating procedures and recovery runbooks, and coordinate escalations with Red Hat support. Execute approved OpenShift recovery procedures during DR drills, including restoration and failover or failback activities appropriate to the platform design. Validate cluster health, registry access, network services, and persistent storage. Work with application owners to verify service recovery against the customer's approved RTO and RPO. Record recovery timings, results, and evidence. Report gaps to the Data Center Manager and update runbooks following approved corrective actions. Qualifications & Experience Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, or a related field. Minimum 5 years of IT infrastructure experience, including practical administration and troubleshooting of Red Hat OpenShift. Demonstrated hands on administration experience in: ODF, ACM, ACS, and Red Hat Quay. Practical knowledge of Kubernetes workloads, Operators, namespaces, scheduling, and resource quotas, with proficiency using oc and kubectl. Strong Linux administration and troubleshooting skills, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Red Hat Enterprise Linux CoreOS (RHCOS). Working knowledge of VMware vSphere / VCF and Nutanix AHV sufficient to support OpenShift dependencies and coordinate with virtualization teams. Knowledge of container networking, DNS, ingress, load balancing, TLS certificates, and persistent storage. Experience supporting disconnected environments, including image mirroring, registry management, and controlled updates. Practical familiarity with backup, restore and DR exercises, with the ability to execute approved recovery procedures and validate results. Shell scripting skills for operational automation, disciplined change control and incident management, and clear technical documentation. Ability to communicate clearly, collaborate across technical teams and troubleshoot effectively during service incidents. Preferred Qualifications Red Hat OpenShift administration certification.
