About Us
We are seeking a highly analytical and experienced Senior Actuarial Assumption Governance Specialist to oversee the development, validation, documentation, and governance of actuarial assumptions used in insurance valuation, reserving, pricing, capital modeling, and financial reporting.
The successful candidate will help ensure actuarial assumptions are appropriate, evidence-based, consistently applied, and aligned with applicable accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and internal risk management frameworks. This role requires strong actuarial expertise, sound professional judgment, and the ability to collaborate with actuarial, finance, risk, underwriting, and compliance teams.
Key Responsibilities
Establish, maintain, and enhance governance frameworks for actuarial assumptions across relevant insurance and financial reporting processes.
Review and assess assumptions relating to mortality, morbidity, longevity, persistency, lapse rates, claims frequency, claims severity, expenses, inflation, discount rates, and other relevant actuarial variables.
Coordinate assumption-setting and assumption-review activities for reserving, pricing, valuation, capital adequacy, and financial projections.
Evaluate the appropriateness of assumptions using historical experience, emerging trends, external benchmarks, industry data, and forward-looking analysis.
Conduct experience studies and investigate deviations between actual outcomes and expected results.
Assess the financial and risk implications of assumption changes on technical provisions, insurance liabilities, profitability, capital requirements, and business performance.
Challenge proposed assumptions and document the rationale, supporting evidence, limitations, and approval requirements.
Develop standardized assumption documentation, review templates, change logs, and supporting analytical records.
Ensure assumptions are subject to appropriate independent review, validation, approval, and periodic reassessment.
Monitor assumption uncertainty, sensitivity, model limitations, and potential sources of estimation bias.
Collaborate with actuarial model owners to ensure assumptions are implemented consistently across valuation systems, projection models, and reporting processes.
Support the assessment of actuarial assumptions under relevant accounting and regulatory frameworks, including IFRS 17 and applicable solvency requirements where relevant.
Prepare assumption governance reports, experience analysis summaries, sensitivity assessments, and recommendations for senior management and governance committees.
Identify control weaknesses and recommend improvements to assumption management, model governance, and actuarial reporting processes.
Support internal audits, external audits, regulatory reviews, and actuarial validation exercises by providing clear evidence and documentation.
Keep abreast of developments in actuarial standards, insurance regulations, economic conditions, and emerging industry practices.
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor's or master's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, or a related quantitative discipline.
Typically 7–10 years of relevant experience in actuarial valuation, assumption setting, insurance reserving, actuarial modeling, or actuarial governance.
Strong understanding of actuarial assumption development, experience analysis, sensitivity testing, and assumption validation.
Practical knowledge of assumptions used in life insurance, health insurance, general insurance, or reinsurance, depending on the business portfolio.
Familiarity with IFRS 17, relevant actuarial standards, and applicable insurance solvency or regulatory reporting requirements.
Experience developing or maintaining governance policies, assumption inventories, approval matrices, and documentation standards.
Ability to analyze historical data, evaluate emerging experience, and distinguish between temporary fluctuations and underlying trends.
Strong understanding of the impact of assumption changes on insurance liabilities, earnings, capital adequacy, and risk exposure.
Proficiency in Excel and actuarial modeling or analytical tools; experience with programming languages such as Python, R, or SQL is an advantage.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and technical documentation skills.
Ability to explain complex actuarial judgments and assumption sensitivities to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Strong attention to detail, professional integrity, and the ability to work independently in a remote environment.
Progress toward or completion of a recognized actuarial qualification, such as FIA, FSA, FIAA, or an equivalent professional designation, is highly desirable.
