We're building an AI-native product engineering business focused on strong engineering, innovation, and technical excellence. 💻 About the Role We are looking for an experienced Lead React Frontend Developer to drive frontend architecture, technical decision-making, and the development of scalable, high-quality web applications. This is a hands-on technical leadership role requiring strong architectural expertise and proven experience designing complex frontend solutions. You will be responsible for defining the technical approach, establishing scalable architecture, and driving implementation from concept to delivery. We are particularly interested in engineers with experience building multi-brand, white-label, or multi-site platforms, and a strong understanding of how to create reusable frontend systems without compromising flexibility or maintainability. You will combine deep React and Next.js expertise with architectural vision, taking ownership of technical decisions while remaining actively involved in development. 🛠️ Key Responsibilities Define and lead frontend architecture using React, Next.js, and TypeScript. Make key architectural decisions and translate technical requirements into scalable, maintainable solutions. Design frontend architectures that support multiple brands, applications, and configurable user experiences. Establish reusable component architectures, shared libraries, design systems, theming strategies, and configuration-driven solutions. Design and maintain monorepo structures that promote code reuse, consistency, and efficient development. Evaluate existing applications, identify architectural limitations and technical debt, and define modernisation strategies. Lead the implementation of complex frontend solutions, from architectural design through to production delivery. Establish frontend engineering standards, coding conventions, architectural patterns, and best practices. Optimise application performance, rendering strategies, accessibility, security, and maintainability. Integrate frontend applications with REST APIs, GraphQL services, and content management systems. Design and improve CI/CD workflows, ideally using GitLab CI/CD and GitLab Runners. Establish effective testing strategies to ensure software quality and long-term maintainability. Collaborate with product, design, backend, and engineering stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions. Provide technical leadership and mentorship, helping other engineers grow and adopt strong engineering practices. Identify opportunities to improve development workflows, tooling, and productivity, including the use of AI-powered development tools. 🎯 Requirements 8 years of professional software development experience, with substantial experience in frontend engineering. Expert-level knowledge of JavaScript, TypeScript, and React. Strong hands-on experience with Next.js and modern frontend application architecture. Proven experience designing, evaluating, and implementing scalable frontend architectures. Demonstrable experience with multi-brand, white-label, multi-tenant, or multi-site applications. Strong understanding of reusable component architectures, shared libraries, design systems, theming, and configuration-driven development. Experience designing and maintaining monorepos using Nx, Turborepo, or similar tools. Strong understanding of frontend architectural patterns, application state management, and component composition. Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated development workflows; GitLab CI/CD and GitLab Runners are a strong advantage. Experience integrating frontend applications with REST APIs and/or GraphQL. Strong knowledge of frontend performance optimisation, responsive design, accessibility, and web security. Experience implementing automated tests using tools such as Jest, Vitest, React Testing Library, or Playwright. Experience working with content management systems and content-driven applications. Proven ability to make architectural decisions, assess technical trade-offs, and take ownership of implementation and delivery. Experience leading technical initiatives, mentoring developers, and establishing engineering standards. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to different stakeholders. Previous experience consolidating multiple applications or codebases into a shared frontend platform. Experience with headless CMS architectures and API-driven content delivery. Familiarity with design tokens, theming systems, and design system governance. Experience with Storybook and reusable component library development. Experience modernising legacy applications and reducing technical debt. Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Vercel. Knowledge of microfrontend architectures and their trade-offs. Experience with feature flags, automated deployments, and environment-based configuration.
