We are committed to: Excellence Responsibility Empowerment Connectivity Courage About the Role: Dar Al-Handasah is seeking an experienced Senior Dam Engineer to join our team in Cairo, Egypt. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership in the planning, design, analysis and delivery of dam and water infrastructure projects. This role requires strong expertise in dam engineering, geotechnical and hydraulic analyses, dam safety and multidisciplinary design coordination, together with the ability to lead engineering teams, engage with clients and ensure the delivery of technically robust and high-quality solutions. The position offers an opportunity to contribute to complex and challenging infrastructure projects while driving engineering excellence and developing technical capabilities across the team. Key Responsibilities: 1. Technical Leadership & Design Delivery Lead the technical delivery of dam and water infrastructure projects from concept and preliminary design through detailed design and Issued for Construction (IFC) stages. Establish project-specific design strategies, engineering methodologies and technical approaches in line with client requirements and applicable standards. Lead and review advanced geotechnical, hydraulic, structural, static and seismic analyses for dam structures and associated infrastructure. Review and approve design calculations, drawings, technical specifications, models and Bills of Quantities. Lead remedial, rehabilitation and dam improvement design assignments. Assess ground investigation data, soil and embankment characteristics, foundation conditions and seepage behaviour, ensuring the reliability of design assumptions. Address complex technical challenges related to dam foundations, seepage, hydrology, stability and long-term performance. Ensure compliance with relevant international standards, including BS and Eurocodes, and applicable local codes and regulations. Drive value engineering, design optimisation, constructability and whole-life cost considerations. 2. Dam Safety & Risk Management Lead dam safety inspections, assessments, evaluations and risk analyses, including potential failure scenarios. Develop and review Emergency Action Plans (EAPs), dam safety surveillance programmes and monitoring reports. Evaluate dam integrity, structural performance, foundation conditions and associated safety risks. Establish appropriate mitigation measures and provide technical recommendations to address dam safety concerns. Ensure compliance with applicable dam safety regulations and industry best practices. 3. Quality Assurance & Technical Documentation Review and approve technical reports, design submissions, engineering narratives and compliance documentation. Lead technical design reviews and ensure interdisciplinary comments are addressed and properly documented. Establish and maintain QA/QC procedures to ensure the accuracy, consistency and quality of engineering deliverables. Monitor technical scope changes and provide engineering justification for variations and additional services. Oversee technical investigations and construction-phase engineering services, including responses to site queries and design modifications. 4. Project & Multidisciplinary Coordination Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure the timely delivery of integrated design packages. Coordinate with project managers, discipline leads and other stakeholders to align technical deliverables with project objectives and schedules. Define engineering work packages, technical scope and resource requirements. Monitor technical progress, identify design risks and recommend appropriate corrective actions. Support tendering and procurement activities through technical evaluations, contractor submissions and responses to technical clarifications. Coordinate BIM deliverables and ensure effective integration across disciplines. 5. Client & Stakeholder Engagement Act as a key technical representative for dam engineering matters in client meetings, technical workshops and project discussions. Engage with clients, consultants and relevant authorities to agree on design approaches, resolve technical challenges and facilitate project approvals. Provide technical contributions to proposals, bids and business development activities. Support the development of project execution strategies and technical narratives for major bids. 6. Team Leadership & Technical Development Provide technical guidance, supervision and mentorship to junior and mid-level engineers. Lead technical discussions, design reviews and knowledge-sharing initiatives within the engineering team. Promote engineering best practices, technical innovation, digital workflows and continuous improvement. Encourage collaboration and knowledge sharing across disciplines and projects. Maintain high standards of technical integrity, professional conduct, accountability and health and safety. Requirements: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Water Resources Engineering or a related discipline. Extensive professional experience in dam engineering and the design of dam and water infrastructure projects, commensurate with the seniority of the position. Proven experience leading dam design projects from concept through detailed design and IFC stages. Strong technical expertise in dam engineering, including: Dam structures and foundation engineering. Geotechnical investigations, soil characterisation and embankment assessment. Seepage analysis and foundation stability. Hydraulic and hydrological analyses. Static and seismic stability analysis and numerical modelling. Dam rehabilitation and remedial engineering. Demonstrated experience in dam safety inspections, risk assessments, failure scenario analysis and regulatory compliance. Strong knowledge of relevant international engineering codes, standards and local regulations. Experience in reviewing and approving complex engineering calculations, drawings, specifications and technical reports. Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary engineering teams and coordinate complex design deliverables. Experience in client engagement, technical presentations and coordination with regulatory authorities. Familiarity with BIM processes, multidisciplinary coordination platforms and digital engineering workflows. Excellent technical reporting, communication, leadership and problem-solving skills. Strong organizational and time-management abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
