Storage Backup Administrator

We are seeking an experienced Backup & Data Protection SME to join the infrastructure operations team, providing Level 2 operational support, administration, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement across enterprise backup, recovery, cyber-recovery, storage, replication, and tape environments. The role will be responsible for day-to-day operations of enterprise backup platforms, ensuring backup availability, recoverability, security, capacity, performance, and compliance with operational and DR requirements. Key Responsibilities Perform day-to-day Level 2 operations and administration of enterprise backup and recovery environments. Administer and support Commvault, Veritas NetBackup, Cohesity, and Veeam environments. Monitor backup jobs, policies, schedules, failures, capacity, performance, replication, and recovery operations. Troubleshoot backup and restore failures, identify root causes, and coordinate with Level 3/vendor teams where required. Manage backup policies, retention, schedules, storage targets, media, clients, agents, and backup infrastructure. Perform file, VM, application, database, and system recovery operations and validate successful restores. Support cyber-recovery, immutable backup, air-gapped backup, and ransomware-resilience solutions. Administer and troubleshoot Dell Data Domain and other backup storage destinations. Work with enterprise storage platforms and demonstrate strong understanding of SAN/NAS, storage capacity, performance, replication, and connectivity. Manage and support tape libraries, tape drives, media pools, vaulting, offsite storage, and tape rotation. Support IBM tape encryption and integration with IBM SKLM / GKLM and related key-management infrastructure. Manage encryption keys, certificates, authentication, and integration between backup, tape, storage, and security platforms. Support backup replication, copy/duplication, vaulting, offsite protection, and DR recovery processes. Participate in DR exercises, cyber-recovery drills, backup recovery testing, and business continuity activities. Monitor backup infrastructure health, capacity, performance, and utilization and recommend improvements. Perform upgrades, patches, configuration changes, migrations, and technology refresh activities. Support integration of backup platforms with virtualization, operating systems, databases, applications, storage, and cloud environments. Maintain operational documentation, runbooks, recovery procedures, architecture diagrams, and knowledge articles. Handle incidents, service requests, changes, and problems in accordance with enterprise ITSM processes. Ensure backup environments comply with security, retention, audit, and regulatory requirements. Work closely with server, storage, virtualization, security, network, application, and DR teams. Identify opportunities for automation, standardization, capacity optimization, and operational improvement. Proven Level 2 troubleshooting and incident-management capabilities. Strong understanding of storage, operating systems, virtualization, networking, and enterprise infrastructure. Experience working in large-scale environments with multiple data centers and DR sites. Ability to analyze backup failures, performance issues, capacity constraints, and recovery problems independently. Experience with backup infrastructure migrations, upgrades, platform integration, and technology refresh. Knowledge of automation and scripting such as PowerShell, Python, REST APIs, or vendor automation tools is an advantage. Experience with monitoring and reporting platforms and enterprise ITSM tools.
